supplements

The ultimate answer to my gallbladder problem, other than avoiding the trans fats, was supplements. I got frustrated with all of the information on line and finally found a nutritionist to guide me. She had me take beet green supplements that cleared the problem right up. I don't have to take them anymore. Only if I have a flair-up and I only have a flair-up when I eat trans fats.
Now, I want to point out that the ultrasound didn't show any stones. If you have gallbladder problems, then consider trying what I did, but keep in mind that what works for one may not work for another. Although, my nutritionist did tell me that she had never seen a patient that did not have good results with that particular supplement.

Now I take fish oil, Borage oil (supposed to be good for skin), Evening Primrose Oil (saved me from PMS), multi-vit, extra B complex, SAM-e (for depression, sleep, and arthritis), calcium and magnesium.
Sometimes when my stomach hurts I take DGL which is from the licorice root. It coats the stomach and heals it. Like natural Pepto-Bismol.

I also take something else that I will tell you about in a separate post.

Do you have arthritis? Where do you buy your supplements and do you think it is ok to go cheap or is it better to spend a little more since there really is no relegations on that sort of stuff? Can there be reactions between different herbs?

Is the beet green supplement a powder or a pill? Recently I took a free sample of barley greens to mix in with my water and it was the most HORRID thing I'd ever tasted (well maybe after fried liver and onions). So wondering if you have to consume it or if you can just swallow it pill form. Does the beet itself offer any benefit or is just the greens?

Thanks Kay!

Mel, I have some arthritis in my neck. I can't tell if it's helping with that or not.
There are reactions between supplements and also between supplements and other medications, anesthesia, etc. I think I have a site somewhere that gives those. I'll look for it.
I always thoroughly research any new supplement. There have been some that I've decided against after research and prayer.
If you go to Vit Cottage, they are very knowledgable and will help you know what the more reliable brands are and what is most cost effective. They are great there!
I like a brand called NOW. You can look them up online. They are less expensive and seem to be good.

Robin,
The supplement was in pill form.
I actually like the way barley greens and wheat grass juice taste. So, you may not want my advise on flavor! LOL
I think they taste fresh and clean.
Beets are beneficial to the liver and gallbladder, too.

I wonder if it was the paricular brand that I tried... I thought for sure I would love it when I got the sample. So what exactly do you do with barley greens. I've seen some greens mixes that you can dump into smoothies or whatever, but have been afraid to make the investment in case I didn't like them. I need to learn more. Thanks Kay!

So how do you eat your beets? Do they lose nutrional value when they are canned?

Robin, the Barley green stuff I tried at the store was mixed with apple juice. I just tried it straight today and it is kinda weird. Wheat grass tastes better to me.

I don't really like beets. I do occasionally eat them roasted. They're delicious that way. I don't know if they lose nutrients when they are canned or not. I would guess they do, but I'm not sure.

I do like beet juice, if it's mixed with other stuff.

Kay,

What are the symptoms that you had for gallbladder problems? Just wondering because I'm having some pain in my upper back that I'm not sure about right now... Could be heartburn I suppose also. I went to Urgent Care before Christmas with chest, arm, and upper back pain. The doctor about laughed me out of Urgent Care because he said I didn't have any of the risk factors for heart disease and my EKG that night was perfect. I suggested heart burn and he thought I was crazy, but when I checked online later all of my symptoms were listed under warning signs for heart attack/heart disease and heartburn. I haven't seen my PCP yet, but the pain went away until today. But the pain today is different than the pain the other day since its just in the back and its a day after my new Pilates moves in class???
...so I'm not running off to Urgent Care (it takes an hour to get there).

I'd appreciate your prayers!

Thanks!

Robin, you did the right thing to go to the doctor. They do say that those are all symptoms of heart attack.

I had pain in my tummy and was vomitting. I had eggy burps and I eventually turned a funny color even. but I know that pain in the shoulderblade is a common symptom as well.

Another question for you Kay :)

Have you done any cleanses? Do you know of any that don't require your first born for payment?
