So, I have to go cold turkey again. Who's with me? Anyone else got a monkey on their back? Wanna kick the habit with me? Lend me some support?
We'll all feel much better if we do it, no matter what issues we may have.
When I say sugar, I mean processed white cane sugar or brown sugar. If you want, you can have honey, maple syrup, stevia, agave, maple sugar, date sugar, beet sugar, barley malt... Oh goodness, there are all kinds of sweeteners out there. They just require a little more effort and thought. You can't go to the ice cream shop and get ice cream made with barley malt or something.
And an added benefit is that we will lose some weight!
Ok, are you in?

Funny thing..I just cut all sugar and bread..except one slice a day...bread that is...yesterday! That means no creamer..and you know how I feel about coffee without creamer! So I got a sugar free creamer and am only treating myself to one cup in the mornings. I think that is why I was so cranky, head achy and achy..still a little shaky today...I keep telling myself it is worth it! I am about to head to the bath for a sea salt bath. A good friend of mine recommends them..:)
Blarg!! I will join you in this wonderful quest! And I are a professional baker! woe is me, but I shall go cold turkey-tomorrow. I have lost 8.5 inches since I've been exercising, but have gained weight. blarg once again.
Kay,
You are back! I'm so thrilled :) I want to join you in this quest, but I'm not ready to make the committment. I did buy some honey from the health food store today, but I just LOVE brown sugar - shame on me... I made oatbran muffins the other day with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and I thought I was doing good... I know I need to cut it though...
Kay,
Here is the recipe for the oat bran muffins - since I didn't have honey when I made them I ommitted it and added more moisture (I think with unsweetened applesause - I do something different every time)
2 cups of oat bran
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup of skim milk
2 egg whites (I just used 1 egg)
1/4 cup honey
2 tsp oil (I used the applesauce here too).
Next time I make them I will omit the brown sugar and use my local honey instead.
Robin, the Succanat that I've talked about before tastes just like brown sugar. It is cane sugar, but not processed.
I love the taste of brown sugar, too!
I've used Succanat in the past and loved it too, but it's so $$$$
I wish I could find it in bulk somewhere...
I am trying to eat alot LESS sugar and choose better quality things, as Mireille says, in French Women Don't Get Fat, when I DO have it. Such as, I just reordered some Recchuiti chocolates from San Fran, rather than eating alot of grocery store/drugstore chocolate. Then I can be satisfied with one or two rich pieces, verses a pound and feel better. I have to watch it though because my stomach does not like caffeine.
