Best foods for weight loss

Some of these foods help because they have high fiber content and are satisfying.  Some because they increase the metabolism.  Others improve serotonin levels or decrease cravings.

1. Beans
High in protein and apparently eating the same calories from protein encourages more fat loss and less muscle loss compared to eating the same calories from carbs.
Also high in fiber which makes you feel full faster and longer.

2. Sweet potatoes
High fiber.  Eating an additional 14 grams of fiber per day can cause you to consume 10% less food.

3. Grapefruit
Not sure the mechanism, but people who eat 1/2 grapefruit before a meal lose more weight.

4. Sardines
Increases serotonin

5. Spinach
Increases serotonin

6. Cayenne pepper and other spicy foods
Boosts metabolism

7. Eggs
People who ate 2 eggs for breakfast lost 65% more weight even thought they consumed the same calories.  

8. Yogurt
Boost fat burning

9. Artichokes
Improves liver function and enhances weight loss.

10. Fresh Ginger
Boosts metabolism.

Good stuff to know... I will start my weight loss journey soon...

My doctor told me I couldn't exercise or do anything to lose weight until after my appointment on Friday... I think in a way I've used that as an excuse to be bad...

I'm actually feeling a bit frustrated because with my older two kids I lost weight without trying and this time its a new story... aughhh... But the baby is precious :)

Alright, Ive started as of Feb.1st to stop eating carbs. All to start with and than I will add in a few healthy ones a little later. So far so good.

Weight sure does seem harder to lose as we get older! Definitely cutting back on sugar and flour, and eating only good carbs will help!

I like (and eat) everything on that list but sardines.

Okay, I'm in week three and I find out what I have done on Sunday. But so far I (as of week 2) have lost 9 pounds and a bunch of inches. 16.5, but I think a lot of them have been water. :( I have been walking at the community center, and the other day I did my first Pilates workout at home (video). 2 days and Im still sore. Thats good right?

Congrats on the good news!

I too recently did my first Pilates workout with a friend at home and hurt for two days as well - such is life...

I'm not noticing the changes I want though...it's definitely harder to lose the baby weight with age. My little angel is 12 weeks old already - time is flying.
